Started in June 2017 as a conversation between a few employees in the breakroom, Gershman Gives Back has flourished into a unique way for our team to give back to the St. Louis community. Within 6 months of the program’s inception, the Gershman family was impressed by the grassroots growth and their charitable foundation began offering a full match of all employee donations. Liz Brown, Assistant Vice President, spearheads the program’s efforts, along with a committee of other dedicated team members. Liz’s passion for non-profits was instilled from a young age through her family’s ongoing commitment to charitable giving. “Give ‘til it hurts” was a common saying in her household, and one that continues to resonate with her.
In December of each year, employees can nominate charitable organizations and the committee determines monthly recipients. Contributions take on a variety of forms, including monetary donations, drives (food, books, school supplies, etc.), and group volunteer events. To date, Gershman Gives Back has supported over 30 local organizations, and the reach continues to expand. Despite the economic challenges of COVID-19, the program has maintained monthly donation levels consistent with prior years and is proud to continue aiding local charities during the pandemic.
